Walking in the Light

If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
(1John 1:6-7)

The Kingdom Hikers Light

I would like to express my love and gratitude to the Nakuru, Kenya Kingdom Hikers and especially one of their members called Diana Keya. Diana is 13 years old and a very quiet and pleasant young lady. I really enjoyed her and all the other hikers who helped us up the mountain. Diana was among six Kingdom Hikers that took our crew from Tennessee to get our Kingdom Hiker “hiking badge”.

It all began when some of the Hiker boys took Brandon hiking up the side of a dormant volcano to visit some caves. When they returned to show us the pictures of the hike and the caves they were breathtaking. We did not know how “breathtaking” till we followed them up the crater.

We were thinking of going with them the next time but from what we gathered it was a stiff hike. Now that fact combined with the reality of it being six or seven thousand feet above sea level, made it seem sort of unrealistic for a bunch of out of shape older people to attempt the climb.

But they would not take no for an answer. So with a little deception as to how far it really was they convinced us it would be no problem. Well it turned out to be 5 times longer than they had us believing it was. We were huffing, puffing, climbing, and crawling for over four hours. But I have to say it was really worth it.

The view from the top of the mountain …. Like the climb up it was … breathtaking. Look for a more detailed description with many more pictures in Amma’s coming blog. It should be up sometime at the end of this week or the beginning of the next.

What was equally wonderful was the time we got to spend with these kids. We had a blast and because we had to help each other up the mountain and down into the caves we really got to know one another better.

One of the caves we went in was a sacred place to the local inhabitants. Believing in different earth spirits they would come to these caves in hopes of receiving spiritual enlightenment and healing for sicknesses.

As we explored the cave I could see some who were “camping” there in high hopes of receiving enlightenment. I wished there had been a way to tell them about Christ but perhaps next time.

As we entered, everything looked strange. You could barely see their faces and it was like being in a movie. You wondered who or what was going to grab you. Most of these people are sincere and compassionate people but inside the caves their faces looked … well a little scary. When we left the caves some of the same people were standing outside and all the strangeness left. Amazing what light can do to your perception.

Then we stopped at our favorite eating place and stuffed our faces with, Samosas, Kabobs, chips and Masala tea.

Today, looking back on the pictures, I got to thinking about the light so I wrote a little poem and put it on the picture I took in the cave. Here it is...

Now I know that this is the Kingdom Hiker blog and maybe it would have been better to have posted this particular post on “My Captive Thoughts” blog. But I wanted to remind you to pray for all these wonderful young people and to wait till the “light comes on” before we make any conclusions about people we don’t know.

Anyway…  Yesu ni Bwana.  (Jesus is Lord)
